Maybe after the million pound profit the sleeve could spare a few coppers for a bronze statue of Sir Kevin and J P somewhere in the Headingley complex.

Pete Smith tweeted yesterday that the sculptor who did the Wembley statue has been commmissioned to make a statue of John Holmes for Headingley.

Gary Hetherington has informed me that there's to be a statue of John Holmes and then the club will look at doing something for the golden generation

He'll be seeking sponsors for it soon, then.

Why No Forward in the grouping?

Because nobody voted for them.

I too am a bit puzzled at the choice. Although each of the 5 are RL greats I understood that the connection was with the Challenge Cup and Wembley stadium.

I do not know what question was on the voting papers or if there was a full explanation of the objectives but for instance I would have thought that there were players with a greater connection to Wembley fame than Gus Risman, great though he may have been. eg Shaun Edwards who made 11 appearances at the stadium (9 of them wins). Then there was Sean Long who won the Lance Todd 3 times.

Eric Ashton without doubt deserves his place and Alex Murphy and Martin Offiah have compelling cases too but Billy Boston, great player though he was, would not of been as great without the afore-mentioned Ashton and I would have thought his club colleague prop Brian McTigue who won a Lance Todd too would have been a more deserving candidate.

Oh that's good news sporting statues are becoming the fashion .One for the golden generation ? I hope there won't be any arguments as to who should be on it like the Wembley statue I.E why not Fox? ,but anyway by the time the golden generation one is commissioned we will have a new generation because when the question is asked when will it be built? ' it will come with the new south stand'
