| How are we doing for Kiwis and Aussies in view of the regulations for next season?
Assuming Smeli and Flannery don't sign on again, which seeing as the club have let the season pass without signing them up it's fair to assume we seem to have Perry, Puletua and Soliola? How many are we allowed to have? I thought the limit was being reduced year on year, but the Goons have about 8 as usual so I'm not sure if the restrictions have been lifted again.
Fozzard, Fa'asavalu, Cunningham, Gidley, Emmit, Flannery, Meli and possibly even Gardner look like they might be moving on. Clough and Wello still without deals too at the moment? I've never seen the club leave it this late before, are they waiting for Royce's input after the 4 Nations before making a decision perhaps?

www.redvee.net/forums/showthread ... -Contracts
Put a contracts thread on redvee a while back and updated it, it explains the quota etc.
I've heard Clough has signed a new 2 year deal and the rumours were that Flannery and Meli were set to sign 1 year deals too. I presume Wello will sign a new deal aswell.
I still think we're a Centre and Winger short, especially should Gardner and/or Meli leave.

| Cheers for the list. 2012 could be an interesting year for us, what with every single one of our good players being off contract at the end of next season.
Imagine losing Pryce, Eastmond, Graham, Puletua, Wilkin and Roby in the same season. Knowing how our board feel about signing players from places other than the academy we'd probably only sign one player to replace those boys.

Whilst I appreciate many of the somewhat unseen work that Flannery does, we've a hatful of capable backrowers and a squad desperately looking for that X factor.

Don't be daft...We would be fighting Quins for the wooden spoon.
In all seriousness I think that a lot of the young lads in the squad are doing well it is the senior players that seem to let us down. The likes of Armstrong, Gaskell and Forster getting some serious time on the pitch in 2011 would be far from a bad thing.
As for our quota. I think that unless we sign a player of undisputable quality we may as well just stick with what we have got.

| I'd call time on Flannery and Meli, we've got a truck load of back rowers, and Meli just isnt cutting it, he had a decent run at centre for a while but what happened in the GF i dont know, and i'm sick of him doing it!
This would leave us 2 spots, and we must fill one with a proper, class winger. Foster/Armstrong/Wheeler/Lomax (take your pick) is acceptable on one wing but we need a seasoned professional on at least one wing!

| Flanno is a funny one. He does a great job in defence, runs good lines in attack but not what you would expect from an origin level back rower. If it was a choice, I would have rather kept Gilly as he offers more pace in attack.
Hes a reliable/dependable club man but IMO, not the type of player who should be taking up an even more valuable quota spot. If he was English, I wouldnt have a problem with him being in the squad.

Exactly. The timing of the contract expiries probably was the reason, but Gilmour is a far better player than Flannery and would have easily been worth a 2 year deal. That one was a mistake I feel.
Renewing Flannery's contract would also be a mistake. Players at his level are common both here and in Australia and it's not like we are short of capable backrowers.
We NEED some strike players. NEED, NEEED, NNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDD!
