So the RFU have allowed an increase in salary cap and allowed a marquee players wages to be excluded from the salary cap figures...much like the NRL.... Did the good doctor consult for them too?
The superleague has been losing its best talent for years whilst other organisations have made developments to keep theirs. Koukash isn't some sort of pioneer, he's just someone else who has piped up and suggested that the superleague should do more to keep its marquee players.

| Forget it, as long as clubs like Wakefield and Castleford have a say, that's clubs with zero ambition btw, then it won't happen.

| Gotta increase the salary cap in SL, especially with all this money swashing about at club level. If Bradford had been allowed to stretch themselves even further by paying out larger wages then maybe, just maybe they may not be in the mess they are now.

Seems like Bradford were denied a Grade 'A' licence so had to make do with a Grade 'B' one instead

| If anyone read part of the article it would show that you could increase the SL salary cap by x 3 and we would still be behind RU.
So is anyone suggesting that paying 3 times the amount of money we already do for the same players (as those who follow the money will still play RU or NRL as their cap is higher), is going to improve the game???
Will paying John Wilkin 3 times his current wage make him a better player, will it pull in more fans to pay this bill?
I'm not actually a fan of the cap as I think it does little to manage clubs over expenditure. But this false economy of thinking that just paying more will solve anything is crazy.
Let Salford spend £1billion a year, they will have the best team by far, but the 10,000 fans they may get will still not cover the wage bill at it's current level.
We have to increase revenue before we can increase expenditure.
Give me a break even rule any day and allow those who want to throw money away to do so. Now some little clubs like Warrington and Salford have caught up. Some of their fans are wanting to spend even more to see how quickly they can go bust. I say let them and watch the fans drip away when after a few years splurge the bills come in and the revenue can't match the outlay.
It's Wigan all over again, they had the best team for years and years and years, but even their far larger fan base could not support the outlay. Same as Bradford, Saints etc etc.
Increase revenue and then pay what ever you like to match that increased revenue, but not beyond.

I agree to a certain extent (it's still worth remembering that union squads are twice the size of league so 3x the cap and 2x the players but your still right in that point)
I think the cap should at least be allowed to grow with inflation, we've lost £500,000 in "real" value from the cap since 2006 - will paying jon Wilkin less make him a better player?
Growing with inflation, shouldn't affect expenditure and income balances (after all, as inflation increases so SHOULD the incoming money) and is a reasonable compromise for those against raising the cap beyond the means of ... Less ambitious clubs.
I believe the current exemptions in place should have a major effect on the future landscape of the cap. The home grown cap should shake things up - and will generally reward the better organised teams anyway.
Agree a lot about revenue though. In my opinion there should be rewards for reaching certain milestones - reach £5million revenue and have 1 marquee signing exemption (up to say 500k), £10million 2 marquee of 500k or a million pound player (somewhat unlikely in the current climate as I don't think anyone in the world is that value but you get the picture) £20million 3 marquee etc etc (or whatever is reasonable I have no idea what the average revenue of a super league team is)

In theory not a bad idea, but what is to stop Dr K getting his company to pay Salford 10,000,000 a year for shirt sponsorship and then having SBW and Slater on the books and off the cap?
As for the average turn over of a SL club, London Turned over 4,400,000 in 2012 spending the full cap. They made a loss of 2.2 million on that
I believe 5million is about the norm for a mid/bottom level club...towards the top you get into the 8-10 million bracket.
