| It's been done before, it's been talked of in at least 2 other threads, so as it's the off season, let's do it again to see where it looks like Salford fans are spread (or at least those registered on here).

| Nice idea,
No surprise, the majority of votes place fans now outside the tradtional Weaste Seedley area.
Sure like myself they started out within the city boundary and family/job spread them wider.
It would be interesting to get a look of the clubs data base and see if it is the same story.

| Brung up in Irlam. Remember getting the number 10 with a group of other teens in the late 80s. Now live in Swinton and am recruiting my sons school friends' parents to come along.
Got friends who now live in Stoke and London who come to a game every now and then

Another one here too, I was born in Stockport but raised in Denton, now live in Oldham and watched Salford since I was 5 years old.

| I think what would be most interesting Iain is if we had a way of finding out where people lived when they started watching us as well. I suspect most would have originally been from the Central Salford/Weaste area and would have moved away over time with family and kids. This would suggest that a big factor in getting new fans would be to have the Stadium at the centre of the community and easily accessible to most people. In contrast, as not many people are from Barton now and the stadium isn't very close to many communities it would mean we lose out on this way of attracting new fans. In the long run, this could be dangerous for our attendances.

I actually don't think the results would be greatly different if people answered where they grew up. I think people interested in RL be it through exposure on the TV or kids learning it at school or local Clubs have a larger bearing on interest these days, and for quite a while. You will always pull a certain amount from the local area, but the pull has been pretty much dead for a while now. The reasons? I don't know. Apathy? Dwindling interest? Lack of success? You can't say 'Club in the heart of the community' would change things. The Willows has had slowly decaying numbers and interest since the seventies. I've known plenty of people that lived within spitting distance of the Willows and they wouldn't even know the place existed. But the results are plain to see. If the fickle Salford public want a winning side before they return, then the Club is going to have to try further afield to get in, and hold onto, new support. Judging by the figures, there's fans away from Salford to be had. Pushing the product in these areas can only be a good thing. It plainly doesn't mean a loss of identity. It seems a large majority of hardcore Salford fans are not Salfordians anyway and still identify with the Club. If the Club can grab more from outside the area and hold onto them, it would negate the need for owners to look at 'other options'.
That's why we should be getting behind initiatives like taking a game on the road. Not because it's a sinister prelude to something else.

There's plenty of housing within a 15 minute walk from AJ Bell. We should start our marketing/promotion/development there and work outwards.
All this stuff about "being at the heart of the community" is pointless unless you (or someone you know) is going to stump up the cash for another new stadium.
Rather than moaning about stuff that you simply cannot change, we need to take positive action to get the most over our current situation.
