How would these players count in regards to the quota?

It would depend how old they were when we signed them.

Interesting move, it may not produce any players of note, but who knows?

I wouldn't be suprised to see some type of dispensation with Canada being an emerging nation.

Lee Jenkinson has done a lot of work on this in the last few months, getting this contract signed ahead of a lot of the other SL clubs. The first 2 players arrive in the next couple of months, 1 is definitely going to attract the female fans so I am told.

The majority of the players that will come across will be in their teen's, they are fantastic athletes, so if they can learn the basics of Rugby League then this is a fantastic partnership. I think we get 2 players every year for a months trial. Regards the quota, with them coming over young, would they count as homegrown if we bring them through our Academy?

To count as Home Grown they'd need to be registered with our academy for 3 years prior to their 21st birthday. I think. This would also allow them to count as Federation Trained, but I don't think it would exempt them from the Overseas Quota as Canadian residents have no automatic right to work in the UK.

I think the plan is to bring them over at 17/18 - therefore 3 years prior to their 21st.

I think this partnership is fantastic news, but the RFL need to maybe alter the quota rules for teams that are investing in scouting talent in this way. To get this game growing in other countries, then we need to be scouting in those countries, but with the quota rules in place, then it wont be practical.
