| Many of you may remember Vince . He spent many hours on this forum a few years ago winding us up .
He was mentioned by Wilf in his second book , about his RL memory at a game against Wigan at the a Boulevard with his Father , my Grandfather.
Vincent sadly , suddenly passed away 2 weeks ago and was today laid to rest .
Vince was my Uncle , who will be sadly missed by all his family and Friends .
I know many on here would have crossed "swords" with him . For a Robin he was one of the best .
RIP Vince

| Oh dear oh dear, how sad is that!! he was great bloke we crossed swords regularly on here and I bumped into him a time or two in Beverley he was a real fan and we talked for ages, that's when the Eric Ashton story came out. Although a Rovers supporter he had some great memories and a great deal of affection for the heritage and history of the game in Hull. Here in tribute to him is a short extract from Roamin'
Hull v Wigan Saturday 19th March 1960
"It was a freezing cold day too and years later a pal of mine, Vince, related how he was in that queue having been bribed by his Dad who said that he would take him to the game but only if he queued (all day) for their tickets!! We got ours I believe from the supporters club, so we all just sat in the front room in Aylesford street all day and watched the fun as hundreds filed past our bay window"
."Then we walked through the discarded heaps of straw around the dead ball line and took up our seats on park benches positioned in front of the Threepenny Stand at the Gordon Street end of the ground and about 6 foot from the touch line! Seats were also lined up behind the posts at each end too and that’s where Vince and his Dad sat that day. The Safety at Sports Ground people would have had a field day!"
"Vince though, sitting at the other end, has just as strong memories of that day and he told me years later that he was sat there when Wigan’s Norman Cherrington scored just 6 feet from him, only for the try scorer then to be congratulated right in front of him by the legendary Eric Ashton! He says that it was almost unreal to see those great folk heroes of the age right there before him. Vince incidentally says that to this day it was the most exciting experience he has ever had at a Rugby League game. Not bad for a Rover’s fan, but your first big game as a kid is like that isn‘t it?"
Sad day RIP Vincenzo!!

Thanks Wilf , as you say Vince's great RL memory , as he recounted to us on many an occasion. He told me when he was young and our " neighbours " weren't doing so well , he asked to switch alligence, and attend the Boulevard with his Dad .
His Father told him to stick with Rovers ," as they were his team ".
Vince always said this was the best advice his Father ever gave him !!!
Not so sure on that one from my Grandad!!!
RIP

| I too crossed swords with Vince on a number of occasions on this forum, we also conversed on more friendly terms through PM. I'd known him since we both worked in shipping in the late 60s/early 70s and it doesn't seem that long ago that he was telling me about the death of his business partner Des. Vince, like Des was a passionate Rovers supporter and although the banter got a bit extreme at times, it was usually taken in good spirit.
That now makes four old mates and my ex-wife who've slipped off the hook this year.
RIP Vince

Just to echo your words,
I had many a "decent" rally of posts on here and via PM. Vince had strong opinions, some of which we were never going to agree on but some of which were spot on. He knew his stuff and could see through a lot of a BS which was pumped out of both Hull clubs 5-10 years ago.
Sad loss for his family and friends
RIP
