To me, it doesn't seem right that in the Magic Weekend Wigan have effectively got a bye against an extremely poor side who are unable to compete. Perhaps we could now look at a seeding system because people aren't going to want to watch blowout scores between unmatched sides.

Huddersfield, for example, got a much tougher game against a decent team.

As much as your post in a bit tounge-in-cheek, I do think the weekend brings up the issue of whether the league table is a fair reflection of the whole season. For example, if Warrington win the league by 1 point (after playing the team at the bottom of the league three times) and Saints are 2nd having had to play their extra fixture against Wigan, this seems very unfair.
I don't know the answer, I like the idea of Magic Weekend but it does lose the game some credibility!

How about the team's name their squads on the Thursday and then all the team's are drawn out of the hat to see who will play who on the Friday night.

Try telling a non-RL fan about magic weekend and watch their face as you get to the bit where you tell them it's an EXTRA league fixture meaning you play one particular team three times.

They'll love it won't they? The chance to play the most meaningful league fixture an extra time.

When I explain that it was an 'extra' fixture she said she didn't realise we played every team three times in a season.

Even if there was any truth in this 'event', the opinion of your wife - who has absolutely no knowledge of RL or sport in general - is about as consequential as a Kris Welham tackle.

And here lies the problem with RL attracting new supporters - if they don't already follow the sport their opinion (that they think the rulea are stupid) is laughed at.
